JoÃo Bosco Medeiros was born in 1946 in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. He grew up in a musical environment, influenced by his father, who played guitar and harmonica, and by various genres of Brazilian music, such as samba, bossa nova, folk and regional. He started playing guitar at the age of 12 and soon began composing his own songs.

He moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1969 to pursue his studies in civil engineering, but also to pursue his musical career. He met the poet and lyricist Vinicius de Moraes, who became his mentor and introduced him to other artists and producers. He also met the singer Elis Regina, who recorded several of his songs and helped him gain recognition and popularity.

He released his first solo album in 1973, titled JoÃo Bosco. Since then, he has recorded more than 30 albums and has collaborated with many renowned artists, such as Milton Nascimento, Gal Costa, Djavan, Chico Buarque and Caetano Veloso. He has also performed in many countries around the world and has received several awards and honors for his work.

His songs are known for their sophisticated melodies, harmonies and rhythms, as well as for their poetic and social lyrics. He often explores themes such as love, politics, culture, history and identity. He is considered one of the most influential and respected songwriters of his generation and one of the greatest representatives of MPB (Brazilian Popular Music).
