This is the third time Urawa Reds have reached the Club World Cup finals. Their best result was finishing third back in 2017. The Red Devils, who won the Asian Champions League in April by beating Saudi Arabia side Al HIlal, edged a nervy tactical battle on Friday against CONCACAF Champions League winners Leon. A late effort from former Dutch U21 international Alex Schalk was enough for the Japanese side to reach the semi-finals. They now want to cause an upset against a club desperate to be thought of as the best in the world.
Luckily for Urawa Reds, Man City are playing like anything but at the minute. Pep Guardiola's side have won only one of their last six Premier League games and let a two-goal lead slip at the weekend against Crystal Palace. A seemingly impregnable defense and system now looks vulnerable, as teams attempt to bring chaos to the pitch against a manager who does everything for control. Top scorer Erling Haaland has missed the past three games with injury and faces a late fitness test.

Manchester City will be in uncharted territory as they prepare to face Japanese outfit Urawa Red Diamonds in the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup semifinals on December 19 in Jeddah.
Pep Guardiola's side are the UEFA representative following their Champions League triumph at the back end of the 2022/23 campaign in what will be their first appearance in the competition.
If Guardiola can lead City to the final, he will be in with a chance of becoming the first manager to win the title four times, with Copa Libertadores champions Fluminense or Al Ahly their opponent in a potential final.
Guardiola will be determined to secure another title, despite the potential for a mid-season distraction for his squad, and he is expected to name a strong starting team in this clash.
Star striker Erling Haaland is making positive steps in his recovery from a foot injury and could start for the defending European champions, although the game may come too soon for him, as well as Jeremy Doku (thigh). Kevin De Bruyne has travelled to Saudi Arabia but is not expected to feature as he continues his rehabilitation from hamstring surgery.
The Diamonds, commonly known as Urawa Reds, will be confident after their 1-0 win over Mexican side Club Leon in the previous round. Takahiro Akimoto, Takahiro Sekine and Tomoaki Okubo all picked up knocks in the previous and it remains to be seen whether the trio will be passed fit. Dutch winger Alex Schalk could well start.
Urawa, the AFC Champions League holders, have already seen off Mexican outfit Leon to make the semi-finals and now face a glamour tie with the European champions. The winner will face Fluminese, who beat Al Ahly 2-0 in the first semi-final on Monday.
City will hope what should be a routine couple of wins, to be named world champions for the first time, will give them a chance to refresh and regroup after a disappointing few weeks in domestic football.
The champions have one win in six in the Premier League and have now gone eight games without a clean sheet following Saturday's draw with Crystal Palace. It should be a different story in Saudi Arabia, even with Fluminense lying in wait in the final, should they win on Tuesday.
Manchester City have flown their entire first-team squad to Jeddah for the tournament, inclulding injured trio Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Kevin De Bruyne. The first two were not on show in training on Monday but the Belgian was able to participate for a short while.
All three could feature in the Gulf, but none are certain to do so as they all still carry injuries. Either way, they will surely all sit out this game even the gulf in class between both teams. Matheus Nunes, Mateo Kovacic, Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega should all come in.
Urawa could hand Alex Schalk a start after coming off the bench to score the winner against Leon, and could partner the retiring Jose Kante.
Takahiro Akimoto, Takahiro Sekine and Tomoaki Okubo were all injured during the quarter-final but it remains to be seen if they are ruled out of facing City.
Urawa Red Diamonds dumped Mexican outfit Leon out of the competition on the back of a solitary goal from Alex Schalk in the second-half setting up a tie with Manchester City in the semi-final.
The Cityzens play their first fixture in the 2023 Club World Cup as they earned a direct entry to the semi-finals where they'll face their Japanese rivals.
Despite their victory against Leon, the Japanese side lost some crucial names from their eleven with the trio of Takahiro Sekine, Tomoaki Okubo, and Takahiro Akimoto all ruled out for the clash against Manchester City.
Alex Schalk would be vying to replace Okubo in the eleven after the Dutch forward thundered the winner in their previous round while Hiroki Sakai will displace Sekine after the former healed from his knee injury recently.
The biggest source of happiness for Manchester City this week would be the return of their superstar Kevin De Bruyne with the veteran touted to return to the matchday squad ahead of their Club World Cup semi-final fixture. The Belgian midfielder missed a majority of the campaign due to a hamstring concern but he'll be vying to get minutes with City in dire need of his services in midfield.
Stefan Ortega would be gearing up for a start in the eleven ahead of Brazilian shot-stopper Ederson with Pep Guardiola usually rotating between his two goalkeepers.
Erling Haaland (foot) and Jeremy Doku (muscle) are two crucial absentees for the fixture with the duo not featuring in the stalemate against Crystal Palace. While the trio is listed in the squad for their visit to the Middle East, Guardiola could refrain from giving them any minutes and rest them from the knockout fixture.
